Nourishing Heart Yoga 200 Hour Training
Awaken | Immerse | Embody
Our training consists of 8 weekends over the course of 4 months. Additionally, students will meet once per week for a 2-hour class through the duration of the training, September 7 – December 4, 2022.
Students are required to attend every session included in the training program. We understand that students have important commitments outside of the classroom. Should extenuating circumstances impact attendance, students are permitted to miss a class. It is the responsibility of the student to pick up any missed learning material by coordinating with a cohort to record and/or take notes during class.
Matece Skow, Founder of Nourishing Heart Yoga, has been fostering compassionate growth and healing for students and clients for the past 18 years. She facilitates safe and nurturing environments for transformation of body and heart through the practices of yoga, breathwork, meditation, essential oils, hands on healing and massage.
Matece directs and teaches the Nourishing Heart Yoga 200 Hour and 300 Advanced Hour Yoga Teacher Training programs. By design, she works with small groups, so as to develop close relationships with students and trainees. She devotes her attention and energy to meeting students where they are, helping each individual experience yoga in their own way, according to their own understanding and capability.
An avid traveler, Matece has led numerous international and domestic retreats and trainings. Through her travels and online yoga classes, she has had the pleasure of sharing yoga with people all over the globe. Returning to the midwest from northern California where she taught and studied yoga in the Silicon Valley for 8 years, she currently enjoys the adventure of being more rooted in her town of Bloomington, Indiana, with her husband and young son.
Matece has had the immeasurable honor to work closely with a Master Teacher for the past 5 years. This relationship has been the greatest source of direct spiritual understanding and embodiment. Matece humbly dedicates her heart, and the Grace that flows through it, in service of Divine Love. May we hold all our parts, especially those which are not yet Love, with compassion and kindness. May we gently move toward our Fullness, living our highest capacity to be United, Joyous and Loving humans!
Denise’s philosophy as a yoga teacher is to help people feel connected to their body, quiet their mind, stimulate a healthy nervous system, and release tension in the body caused by stress, anxiety, or trauma. Denise teaches a gentle, mindful yoga. She sees yoga as a means of listening to the truths of our bodies rather than only the “shoulds” of our brains. Her teaching technique uses a combination of gentle asanas, breath work, meditation, and somatic yoga.
Denise completed her 200-hour RYT training with Matece Skow at Nourishing Heart Yoga. She has been fortunate to learn from other talented teachers as well, including Erich Schiffman, Rodney Yee, Judith Lasater, Amanda McMaine and Diane Thayer. Her yoga practice is also greatly influenced by her Gestalt training.
Denise is a psychotherapist in private practice for over thirty years, specializing in trauma and PTSD work. She provides individual and group therapy, consultation and supervision, and teaches classes and workshops. She is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Emotional Freedom Technique, Gestalt Physical Process, Resorative Yoga and Embodied Life and is a faculty member at the Cleveland Institute for Gestalt.
Anna was led to Indiana University from Atlanta in 2008 by her athletic career as a rower. At IU, she studied as a Health and Fitness Specialist in the School of Public Health and graduated with her kinesiology degree in 2012. After graduation, Anna began her career as a professional personal trainer at Urban Fitness Studio, which she owns today.
Anna began a regular practice in yoga in 2008 to supplement her training for rowing and hasn’t stopped since. In 2017, Anna became a registered yoga teacher, certified by Nourishing Heart Yoga with Matece Skow. She now shares weekly yoga classes at Urban Fitness Studio that fuse functional training with traditional yogic sequencing and philosophy.
Anna’s career in movement is based off her love of empowering others in their strength and meeting students where they are both physically and mentally. Her yoga classes are centered around breath work, functional movement, and postural alignment as she works hand in hand with students to build their strength and cultivate a deep sense of awareness and equilibrium.
Greg practiced mindfulness intensively when he was a Buddhist monk in Burma for 7 years. He experienced firsthand its power to reduce stress and increase wellbeing. Now he is passionate about mindfulness and has devoted his professional life to helping people like you learn what he learned in the monasteries.
But, he offers you something different than what the monasteries offered him.
What’s different is that he lives our life, the life of 21st century modern human being. He demonstrates how mindfulness addresses the concerns and busyness of modern life. He helps you understand your experience through understanding your brain. He uses neuroscience to explain your brain’s natural negativity bias and its neuroplasticity. Greg uses dance and yoga to develop centering practices that easily fit into your daily routine. You always know what to do when you are stressed because you learn to maintain your calm while you are on the go. Greg’s practices develop your power of presence so that when you are speaking, listening, and in meetings, you are at your best. Google, eBay, Facebook, Pinterest, Eli Lilly and PepsiCo employ him to develop powerful presence in their leaders.
This training met and exceeded my goals in so many ways, especially considering I didn’t know what I didn’t know. The amount of information given was expansive, allowing me to integrate what I’m ready for and needing now but also plenty of guidance and support for what I will be moving into as my practice as a student and teacher grows and expands.
The spiritual aspects of the program (specifically the Yamas and Niyamas, The Bhagavad Gita, and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali) really spoke to me. I look forward to studying all of these texts more in depth growing my understanding and intergrating these truths into my life. Also, learning a different understanding of love for others, and for myself. I am more than thankful for the relationships I’ve developed with the women in this incredible program. The love, trust and support I’ve experienced is something I will be forever grateful for.
“Nourishing Heart YTT is a thorough, well-rounded, and very special yoga education. Matece Skow is a phenomenal instructor that created a beautiful, safe, and loving space for us to learn and grow… the community that she nurtured among my fellow students is priceless. She is gifted in many styles of yoga; our training covered a range from challenging vinyasa to gentle, yin, and restorative. She is excellent at teaching safe alignment, hands-on adjustments, and verbal cues. We covered subjects like the neuromechanics of yoga, meditation, intuition, kirtan, Bhakti yoga, business, website design, non-violent communication, and much more. Matece takes things so much deeper than just asana, though. This training ended up being a deeply spiritual experience for me. We chanted, studied the Yoga Sutras and Bhagavad Gita, and honored the roots of yoga, and the Divine (however you experience it!) We all experienced enormous personal growth and were lovingly supported through this (sometimes emotional) process. I’ve learned so much through the last 6 months, while also realizing that there is so much more out there. I’ve been given the skills, tools, and the network to continue being a life-long student of yoga, and to share it with others. This is such a unique program, and I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything.“
“Such a beautiful and heartfelt invitation to an amazing program I highly recommend. I personally know so many people who’s lives have been transformed through being part of this teacher’s training and the community that Matece nurtures. I am deeply touched by how Matece lives and breaths the inner dimension of yoga in everything that she does. Can’t recommend enough! May everyone who will participate be blessed by this offering.”
“Matece is hosting teacher training program in Bloomington. If you know her, you understand what an incredible experience this would be. If you haven’t met her, she lives her message and is a yogi in every sense of the word. Her expertise is unmatched and she would be an asset to anyone pursuing their yoga career or looking to gain a deeper access to self.”
“I began this training to deepen my practice and not with the intention to teach by the end of the training. I have learned so much about self-acceptance and empowerment along the way. By the end of this training, I feel more comfortable and confident serving students in class as a teacher.
Along this journey, I am surrounded with like-minded yoga sisters who held the space for me. We are bonded at a deeper level that I can never imagine. The overwhelming amount of support that I have received from my teacher and fellow sisters have changed my yoga journey completely. I am more than determined to
embrace the yogini lifestyle after the training.“
“Having taught yoga for 15 years I had no particular desire to go to a yoga teacher training until I met Matece. What she offers in her classes was so inspiring that I simply had to experience her teacher training program. I was not disappointed. Matece provides such a well‐rounded and thorough approach to truly teaching yoga that I highly recommend it to all who want to learn more about yoga regardless of teaching aspirations. I offer gratitude to my teacher, Matece, and encourage any seeker to explore this program.“
The NHY teacher training program is exceptional. Rigorous, well-organized, enlightening, and life- changing. Matece is a gifted teacher. She embodies the values and wisdom that she teaches. Matece creates a space for deep learning, connection to self, and connection to others that transcends how to be a teacher that leads a yoga asana class. Learning how to lead a yoga class is just a fraction of the journey in the 200 hour teacher training. The curriculum provides exposure to yoga philosophy, yoga anatomy, pranayama training, and meditation practice in addition to learning asana and the sequencing of asana practice for class instruction. Matece’s standards are high and she cares deeply about the quality of instruction that the teachers she prepares will bring into the community.
I honestly had very high expectations for this training and Matece blew each one of them out of the water. The depth Matece is able to gracefully guide us to is astonishing. Her guest teachers and assistant leigh, were all genuine, warm and knowledgeable. Although a wonderful experience, I couldn’t have anticipated the changes and shifts that took place both internally and externally. I learned a lot about love. I really like how Matece pretty much bases her training around this. This was very challenging physically, mentally and spiritually. It’s no joke, if you’re looking to deepen your knowledge of yoga and its philosophy and feel comfortable and safe in your asana practice, this is the training for you. But don’t take it lightly. Your time, energy and perception will all change, but you learn to rest in love knowing it truly is for the highest good.
Nourishing Heart Yoga is the most amazing and thorough 200 hour yoga teacher program I could have hoped for. Matece crafted a fantastic program that taught us what we needed to know to begin our journey as yoga teachers, brought in all the heart and spirt, and introduced us to so many other experts to help give us a rock solid foundation. I could not recommend a program more highly. If you’re in the Southern Indiana area and considering doing a YTT, don’t pass this one up.
My training through Nourishing Heart Yoga was incredible and eye-opening to the world of yoga. Matece Skow utilizes every minute of training time to inform and educate, while at the same time making the experience beautiful and intimate. Where some trainings focus in on asana and pranayama work, we covered ALL the limbs of yoga in depth. I understand that my RYT 200 is the most basic certification but I feel like this training helped me build an undoubtedly strong foundation.
Nourishing Heart Yoga’s teaching and Matece’s gentle kindness has enhanced my life beyond measure. I am more grounded than I ever have been, and by keeping with my practice and meditation, I am more happy and focused then ever. My life has always been full and very busy, no different than it is now, but the difference is me. I have changed the way I walk through my life and relay my message. I now walk with Loving Kindness as my guide. I’m settled and free in a way because I’ve released so many constraints that were directly connected to ego and the hold it can have on a person. Go gently, heal well, and be good to yourself.
I had no intention of beginning a spiritual awakening when I started this class. I thought I’d lean into the anatomy, and facts would keep me from feeling. I thought I’d become more disciplined, by hating my bad habits: now I have compassion for my forms of survival. Everything I’d been hoping not to confront from Triangle pose, to feelings of guilt and loss, this training provided an opportunity to face, feel, and understand. Finally, here I have begun to learn to take the world in through my heart rather than into my mind.
“This was a training beyond all my expectations. It was so thorough and covered not just proper yoga asana and form, anatomy, but cultural aspects and appreciation, matters of the heart and emotions, becoming a total and true person. It is truly an honor to have taken this coursework.”
My YTT experience with Matece Skow at Nourishing Heart Yoga was an incredible journey of learning, self-love and the most amazing life-transforming experience I have ever had, I feel that I truly learned from the best.
